The Bjorn Baker stable has been on fire this year and it’s full steam ahead to Queensland for talented So You Think filly Dame Commander, who beat older rivals at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Group placed in the spring, Dame Commander was not far away when finishing sixth in the Group III ATC James HB Carr Stakes at her first run back from a spell and was dropped back in grade to a Benchmark 72 over 1600m for this assignment.

She did everything right for Rachel King and scooted through along the inside to score a half length win over the Waller army with the next four runners home all from the champion stable.

After the race, connections were quick to mention the Group I BRC Queensland Oaks on June 7 on as a long range plan for the filly who has won two of six starts earning over $100,000.

A $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Segenhoe Stud for Bjorn Baker Racing / Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA), Dame Commander runs for a big group of stable clients including Frank and Christine Cook in whose colours she runs.

Bred by Segenhoe, Dame Commander is the best of two winners from stakes-placed Shamardal mare Glenbawn Dame, who traces back to a very famous female family as a grand-daughter of Group I winner Stella Cadente.

The fifth dam of Dame Commander is legendary blue hen Eau D’Etoile, the dam of Group I winners Filante, Bint Marscay and Kenny’s Best Pal.

Glenbawn Dame was covered again last spring by So You Think.
