Comanche Miss a New SW for Castelvecchio

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 29

Arrowfield Stud have been having a hot run during the autumn and while unbeaten Castelvecchio filly Verona Rose will have to wait until Tuesday to try her luck in the Group I ATC Vinery Stud Stakes, her sire made amends with a new stakes-winner in Adelaide where Comanche Miss captured the Listed SAJC Clare Lindop stakes (1600m) at Morphettville.

Trained by Phillip Stokes and ridden by Lachlan Neindorf, Comanche Miss was stakes-placed last spring, but went into this assignment as a maiden. She rose to the challenge at her second run back from a spell and was strong to the line winning by half a length to claim a valuable Black Type win.

“We’re rapt with that. She's arrived in Adelaide in superb order and done a great job,” said stable representative Kerrin Stokes.

“Great ride by Lachy, and she was a maiden up until now, so terrific to get a stakes win for Arrowfield.

“She was actually passed in as a yearling at a sale, but we liked the horse and were lucky enough to get her to train, so it’s great to get that maiden out of the way and now she’s a stakes winner, so super result!”

Kerrin Stokes confirmed the bar is set to be raised towards the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks (2000m) on April 26 for Comanche Miss, whose sire Castelvecchio was adept at 2000m and is a son of Champion 3YO Dundeel.

“At this stage, we look at the Auraria (G3) in two weeks, and then two weeks into the Oaks, so she'll stay here in Adelaide and we'll give it a crack,” Stokes added.

Passed in at Magic Millions and retained to race by Arrowfield Stud, Comanche Miss is a half-sister to stakes-winner Super Maxi and is the second stakes-winner among six winners from seven foals to race from Group III winning Rubiton mare Ocean Challenger.

Ocean Challenger parted company with Arrowfield in 2022 when they sold her through an Inglis Digital Online Sale for $25,000.

Castelvecchio is the sire of Comanche Miss.

Comanche Miss is the fifth stakes-winner for Castelvecchio, who with his oldest progeny just three year-olds is running at 8.6% SW to runner.
