Justify Mare Tops March (Late) Digital Sale

Media Release - Wednesday March 26

Well-related 4YO Reasonable (Justify) topped today’s Inglis Digital March (Late) Online Sale, purchased to visit exciting young stallion-in-waiting and Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate Switzerland.

Leading nursery Coolmore purchased the mare, buying out their partners to continue their collection of top-quality mares by their leading stallion Justify.

Reasonable topped the Inglis Digital Sale at $295,000.

Reasonable, a half sister to high-class Inglis Classic Yearling Sale graduate and G2 winner Fiesta, sold for $295,000 following a protracted bidding duel.

“She’s a particularly good-looking daughter of Justify (Scat Daddy), who has proven himself to be a world class stallion and we’ll bring her home with the view of her visiting Switzerland in his first season at stud later this year,’’ Coolmore’s John Kennedy said.

“We were keen to buy our partners out of the mare as we think it will be beneficial in the long term to accumulate quality daughters of Justify.

There was stiff competition for her, she was extremely popular.

“She’s from an active family, she’s the type of mare we believe is going to produce very good-looking foals and we think she’ll be ideally suited to go to Switzerland, our young stallion-in-waiting that we intend to support heavily at his first season at stud.’’

Switzerland (Snitzel), a $1.5m Inglis Easter Yearing Sale graduate, won the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes in November, ensuring his future at stud and status as one of the most valuable colts in the world.

His full brother (ex Ms Bad Behavior) is being offered by Arrowfield as lot 76 on Day 1 of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, being held at Riverside next Sunday and Monday (April 6 and 7).

Reasonable was one of six lots to realise six or more figures in today’s sale, the five highest-priced of whom were fillies or mares.

The second-top lot was G3-winning Proisir mare Aimee’s Jewel, who was sold carrying a pregnancy to emerging stallion Tassort and was bought by Gaire Pty Ltd for $170,000.

“We are very pleased with the result,” said Matt Scown, General Manager of vendor Yarraman Park.

“She is a well credentialled young mare that we know is capable of breeding good-looking stock, so we were happy to protect her, but interest in her was strong and she sold accordingly.

“The level of interest in these sales is nothing short of amazing, but then it makes sense given the variety of stock on offer – Yarraman Park sold two mares through the sale and I bought one myself, so it’s been a productive day,” said Scown.

Another strong result came in the form of Fastnet Rock mare Calanche, offered by Coolmore (as agent) carrying a maiden cover to dual G1 winner Home Affairs.

The full sister to G1 Thousand Guineas placegetter Southbank sold for $155,000 to John Simmons, who will breed her to new Widden Victoria stallion Southport Tycoon (Written Tycoon) in his first season at stud in 2025.

“I have equity in Southport Tycoon and I was advised that this mare was a very suitable option for him,” said Simmons.

“Evidently she is very good-looking and she is carrying a nice pregnancy, so all things considered I thought she was good value.

“Southport Tycoon is a very exciting young stallion and I am pleased to be supporting him in his first season with a nice mare like this.”

In total the sale grossed $4,273,200 with a clearance rate of 76%.

Inglis Digital enjoyed another stunning result on Saturday when 3YO colt Private Harry (Harry Angel) maintained his unbeaten record with a win in the G1 Galaxy at Rosehill.

A 2.5% share in Private Harry was purchased by B2B Thoroughbreds for what now looks a bargain $25,250 as part of the Inglis Digital November (Early) Online Sale last year.

The Nathan Doyle trainee is now amongst the most valuable horses in training in Australia and looks set to target the $20m Everest at Randwick in the Spring.

Entries are now open for the Inglis Digital April (Early) Sale, which will be held from April 4-9.

Entries will close at midnight on Wednesday, April 2, or when the maximum amount of entries (540) have been received.
