First Winner for Kuroshio

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 26
With all the excitement of Golden Slipper weekend it was easy to miss the first winner for young Darley sire Kuroshio, a son of champion sire Exceed and Excel.

KuroshioTwo year-old colt Savatoxl made a winning debut at Pioneer Park in Alice Springs taking out the $16,500 Inglis Handicap over 1000 metres by nearly four lengths.

The youngster was one of a number of yearlings purchased every year by the Alice Springs Turf Club from the Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale that are re-offered at the Red Centre Yearling Sale and are eligible for their incentive race at Pioneer Park the following year.

Savatoxl was an $8,000 purchase from the Stonehouse Thoroughbreds draft and is a half-brother to two winners from Savabeel mare Lil' Miss Hayley.

A brilliant Group II winner by Exceed and Excel, Kuroshio covered his biggest book so far of 133 mares at Darley Victoria last spring at a fee of $7,700.
