Aquis Celebrate Slipper Runners

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 23
The evolution of Aquis into a major player in the Australian bloodstock industry has been achieved through the dedication and talents of their staff including Pre-Training and Racing Manager Kacy Fogden, who was involved in the purchase and syndication of Golden Slipper runners Sunlight and Secret Lady.

Sunlight "Kacy is one of the quiet achievers in our team and does an outstanding job," said Aquis CEO Shame McGrath.

"She won't be at Rosehill on Saturday as she is so busy up at the farm with some 180 horses in her care, but she will certainly be watching with great interest from afar.

"When Mrs Fung was looking to take a share in some fillies after the sales last year it was Kacy who suggested Sunlight, Secret Lady and Singular Sensation with all three fillies ending up qualified for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic."

Three months on and two of those fillies, Sunlight and Secret Lady are lining up in the Golden Slipper with Sunlight, who won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic to run as favourite.

"I've been at Aquis even before it was Aquis, starting here about five years ago," said Kacy Fogden.

"The spelling and pre-training side of the Aquis business has really taken off and it's a huge job making sure all of the horses here, older horses and babies are given what they need in their time with us.

"Sending the young ones back well educated and keeping the trainers happy are the most important things."

Secret LadyKacy Fogden recalls Sunlight and Secret Lady as promising youngsters that caught the eye.

"Sunlight has turned out to be exceptional, but Secret Lady is an amazing little filly," said Fogden.

"We bought her over in Perth, so she had the trip back over here and then was broken in and put into work. She's just kept going and going, Gary Portelli has done a great job with her.

"He has a knack for keeping his fillies happy."

Sunlight spent a week at Aquis after being purchased as a yearling before departing for the Tony McEvoy stable.

"She cut her head in the paddock while she was here and I thought 'she must be a good horse, it only happens to the good ones," Fogden revealed.

It wasn't long before Tony McEvoy was telling everyone Sunlight might be better than good and now she's favourite for the Golden Slipper!

"It's very exciting for Mrs Fung to have two runners in the Slipper," said Fogden.

"They were both lovely fillies and being syndicated as ladies only, so it is very satisfying for our whole team to see them do so well for all of their owners."

With some of Australia's biggest trainers like Ciaron Maher, David Hayes, Tony Gollan, Steven O'dea, Toby Edmonds, Mick Price, Tony McEvoy and Gai Waterhouse now relying on Kacy to continue the education process of their racehorses, it's no wonder she will be watching the Slipper unfold from the Aquis Canungra Queensland base instead of sipping champagne at Rosehill this Saturday.
