Three Stakes Winners in Two Days for Alabama Express

Breednet - Sunday March 9

Promising Alabama Express filly Glasgow Lass had been luckless in two attempts at black type this campaign but got the job done on Sunday with victory in the Listed Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m).

Glasgow Lass won her first two starts before resuming in the Listed WA Breeders Classic last month, enduring a tough run out wide and found some bother in the straight to go with it.

Then last start she took on the Listed Challenge Stakes where she messed the start and found all sorts of bother in the straight.

Things went right on Sunday however with Lucy Fiore giving her a perfect run and producing strongly to beat Machine Gun Gracie (Maschino) by half a length with Twilight Tale (Savabeel) third.

“She’s had a career of no luck but I’ve been confident all prep,” said trainer Mitchell Patemen.

uo;She’s been flying. She should have probably won the first two she went in with even luck.

“Lucy gave her a beautiful ride and she showed how good she is.”

The win takes her record to three wins and a third from 5 starts with earnings of $170,805.

Bred by Yulong Investments, Glasgow Lass was a $28,000 purchase from Yulong at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale for J Warwick who races the filly in a partnership which also includes Yulong, whose colours she runs in.

She is the sixth foal and only winner for Fusaichi Pegasus mare Princess Peggy, a half-sister to Group II winner Infinite Grace from a family which includes Group I winner The Mitigator and Group II winner Fontein Ruby.

Glasgow Lass is the fourth stakes winner for Yulong’s second season sire Alabama Express who has had a big weekend, siring three stakes winners.

They include flag bearer Treasurethe Moment who was brilliant winning the Group II Kewney Stakes at Flemington on Saturday and is ruling favourite for the Group One double of the Vinery and Oaks in Sydney in coming weeks.

There are four yearlings from Glasgow Lass's family entered in upcoming yearling sales:

Australian Easter Yearling Sale: Lot 230 by Street Boss - Segenhoe Stud
