26th Stakes Winner for Smart Missile with Triple Missile

Breednet - Sunday March 9

Twin Hills Stud’s super consistent Smart Missile produced his 26th stakes winner on Saturday when Triple Missile won the Listed Bunbury Stakes (1400m).

Smart Missile

It had been a long time between drinks for the seven-year-old, having last won in October 2022, but there was plenty to like about his runs between times, including a second in the Group II Gilgai Sakes, beaten three lengths by Overpass in the Quokka and two lengths in the Group I Railway Dtakes last November.

This was the race which suited and he didn’t disappoint with the Dionna Riordan trained gelding coming with a strong finish under Joe Azzopardi to beat Final Siren (I'm All The Talk) by ¾ of a length with Desennea (Galah) third.

“He’s found himself in some pretty good races like a Railway and Gold Rush,” said Azzopardi.

“He never runs a bad race.

“Today was a winnable race and he got the job done.”

The win takes his record to eight wins, three seconds, and a third from 29 starts with earnings of $861,675.

Triple Missile is the best of five winners for Medaglia D’Oro mare Triple Latte, a US bred mare from a family most notable in South America including Argentinian Champion Miss Linda.

Triple Latte sadly died last October, with her final foal, a Bivouac colt, making $150,000 at the Magic Millions Perth Sale a few weeks ago.

Smart Missile is having another strong season, sitting in the top 20 stallions by winners with 67, and Triple Missile becomes his third stakes winner of the season.
