Stakes Treble for I Am Invincible

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 9

Reigning champion sire I Am Invincible had a seven winner Saturday and three of those winners were stakes-winners with Vinrock (2YO colt)and Enriched (3YO colt) joined later in the day by the Godolphin homebred mare Commemorative, who scored a dominant win in the Group III ATC Wenona Girl Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

Trained by James Cummings and ridden by Jason Collett, Commemorative made amends for her unlucky third when resuming from a spell last month in the Group III ATC Triscay Stakes.

Given plenty of room in the run, the big girl was able to unwind her stride when she wanted and duly surged clear for an easy length and three-quarter win taking her overall record to four wins and three placings from seven starts with earnings topping $478,000.

“It was ideal the way things unfolded for her. Jason Collett was very attentive before the race where we'd like to see her and importantly how he would go about the ride,” said James Cummings.

"He listened, he went with her, he used her momentum and she put in the big bounds out wide and she was going to take some beating."

"She's backed up that excellent first-up run with a big effort this afternoon and lays a good foundation for her prep."

It was the first ride on the mare for Jason Collett, who was impressed with the giant daughter of I Am Invincible.

"She was really clean from the gate and we thought we'd might be a bit further back than that, but she jumped so well and I got that cover, I was really happy with the spot I was in,” he said.

"I popped her early and just let her go through her gears and she's just so powerful. You see the size of her in the yard and when you've got that up over the rise, it's a good feeling knowing that you've got more on the tank."

Commemorative is the best of four winners from six foals to race from Street Cry (IRE) mare Memorial, who was second in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper.

Memorial is a real Godolphin blueblood being a half-sister to Group I winner Impending, Group III winner Forget, stakes-winner Epidemic and to the dam of Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre from dual Group I winning filly Mnemosyne.

Memorial produced a filly by Brazen Beau last year and was then covered by Native Trail (GB).

Commemorative put the icing on the cake of a great day for I Am Invincible, who has sired 142 winners this season including 11 SW’s with earnings topping $14.1million.
