Invincible Colt Wins G2 Sires Produce Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 8

The $300,000 Group II VRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) always looked a race for the up and comers with talented I Am invincible colt Vinrock making it two wins in as many starts with a dominant two length win.

Trained by Matt Laurie, Vinrock won on debut at Pakenham on February 20 with Mark Zahra in the saddle and he was keen to keep the ride for this tougher assignment in which he ran favourite.

Vinrock was strong all the way to the line to beat Brave Smash (Jpn) colt Brave Design giving Yarraman Park based sires the quinella.

Matt Laurie revealed Vinrock had always been one of his best early two-year-old triallers, but realised the colt would appreciate a trip of 1400 metres, so had kept him on ice

"I nearly ran him last prep," Laurie said.

"He was the first of our two-year-olds to trial and I felt that at that stage they were five-furlong races, and he looked like seven-furlongs plus, so we put him away.

"He was good at Pakenham, which is a big track and here at Flemington, he has gone well.

"He's a very tough horse and when he was placed under pressure at his first start, he really responded well and went to another level today.

"If he pulls up well, we'll go to Sydney for the Sires' there."

Vinrock was a $300,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Rosemont Stud for Matt Laurie Racing / Wilannah Park Bloodstock and has two wins from two starts with $235,500 in the bank.

Bred by Rosemont Stud, he is the best of three winners from Group II winning Redoute’s Choice mare Girl Gone Rockin’, a half-sister to Group III winner Syreon from Group II winner Sorrento.

Girl Gone Rockin’ has a yearling filly by Pierro and after missing in 2023 was covered by Churchill (IRE) last spring.

Vinrock is the 116th stakes-winner for I Am Invincible.
