Shining Smile Makes it Four Wins on the Trot

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 1

Spirit of Boom has had plenty of nice 2YO winners this season, but none better than cracking colt Shining Smile, who made it four wins in a row when taking out the Listed VRC TAB We’re On 2YO Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Trained by the Lindsay Park team and ridden by Daniel Stackhouse, Shining Smile had to share victory last start when he dead-heated with Tentyris in the Listed VRC Talindert, but this time he was able to celebrate victory one out.

Given a beautiful ride, he tucked in behind the speed and produced a well timed finish to run past Ole Kirk first starter Prestige Forever to win by half a length.

A $160,000 Magic Millions Weanling purchase for Boomer Bloodstock from the draft of Robyn Wise, Shining Smile has won four of six starts earning over $400,000 in prizemoney.

Ben Hayes was full of praise for the two year-old, who has developed into the consummate professional.

“He sat behind and travelled and showed a good turn of foot, he was carrying more weight than the rest of the field and won quite easy in the end,” said Ben Hayes.

“He’s a super exciting horse going forward as not many can win four in a row and he;s got a bright future ahead of him.”

Bred by Melbourne Cup winning jockey Scott Seamer, Shining Smile is the best of four winners from Nataya Rose, an unraced half-sister by Canny Lad to stakes-placed Gold Anthem, the dam of Champion Sprinter and G1 sire Starspangledbanner and grand-dam of Group I winner Amicus.

The yearling colt by Zousain from Nataya Rose sold for $80,000 at Inglis Classic and she has a colt to follow by Profiteer and was covered by Pinatubo (IRE) last spring.

Shining Smile is one of eight 2YO winners this season for Spirit of Boom, who has 27 entries for the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.
