Impressive Debut Winner for Shamus Award

Craig Tompson - Thursday February 27

Shamus Award three-year-old Bit Of Shoosh had a torrid time in his debut at Kyneton on Thursday but it didn’t stop him outclassing the maiden field, with better races looking in store.

Shamus Award

Trained by the Hayes team at Lindsay Park, he’d looked good at the jump outs and trials and went to the post a very short $1.60 favourite under Jamie Melham.

After not jumping the best, he was towards the rear when a wayward runner caused him some serious interference early in the race, which left him racing four wide on a limb throughout.

None of it mattered however as Melham sent him around the field when the time was right and he was far too good, defeating Vagabond Hero (Manhattan Rain) by 5.5 lengths with Mrs Slack (Artie Schiller) third.

“Lucky he was such a professional today because there were a lot of hairy moments there,” said Melham.

“He’s obviously got a lot of ability but had to overcome a lot of trouble then and he was too good still.”

Bit Of Shoosh was a $50,000 purchase for Slade Bloodstock and Lindsay Park Racing from the Ultra Thoroughbred Racing draft at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

He is the second winner from two to race for Bernardini mare Quietly, whose second dam is Western Australian stakes winner and WA Oaks placed Magdalena from a family with includes South African Champion 2YO Entisaar.

Quietly has a two-year-old filly by Shamus Award, foaled a colt by Showtime last year and was served by Victor Ludorum.

Bit Of Shoosh is the 58th winner this season in Australia for Shamus Award who stands at Rosemont Stud in Victoria.
