Waller Winners to Watch

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 26

The Chris Waller stable produced a couple of well bred lightly raced maiden winners at Rosehill on Wednesday in I Am Invincible colt President, who has a half-sister for Inglis Easter and Zoustar filly Kilonova, who is closely related to Champion 3YO Filly Sunlight.

A $950,000 Inglis Easter purchase for  China Horse Club / Newgate / Go Bloodstock / Trilogy from the Kitchwin Hills draft, President showed loads of potential as a juvenile placing twice from three starts in very good company including a third in the Group II BRC Spirit of Boom Classic behind Bittercreek.

Sidelined through serious illness after that run, President has been brought back to fitness quietly and with two recent trials was ready to go with James McDonald in the saddle.

He loomed into contention, although got tired late and stuck on to win the 1200m maiden by a head, but will take plenty of benefit from the run.

Chris Waller was delighted to have the talented colt back on track.

“He was one of the favourites for the JJ Atkins, but got very sick and had to go to the spelling farm, so it’s just good to have him back and we’ll see what improvement he takes from today,” Waller said.

President is a half-sister to stakes-placed California Surreal and is the second winner from Group III winning Fastnet Rock mare Serene Majesty, a half-sister to Group III winner Ducasse and stakes-winner Curdled from stakes-winner Custard.

North Bloodstock will offer the yearling filly by So You Think from Serene Majesty at Inglis Easter as Lot 152.

Saluting in the next race on debut was Zoustar filly Kilonova, who was also favourite for her 1200m maiden and scored by half a length for Nash Rawiller as favourite.

Green to the task over the concluding stages, Kilonova will also take plenty of improvement from the outing.

She was a modest $130,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Widden Stud for  Mitchell Bloodstock (FBAA) / G1 Goldmine and is the first foal from Soul Star, a metro winning Hinchinbrook mare from stakes-placed Brave Soul, who is a half-sister to Group III winner Solar Charged, the dam of Champion 3YO Filly Sunlight, Group III winner Sisstar and stakes-winner Clean Energy, with all three sired by Zoustar.
