Unbeaten 2YO Sunrays Leads Saturday Hellbent Metro Treble

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 23

Hellbent has been churning out the winners and had a metropolitan treble on Saturday with fleet footed two year-old filly Sunrays making it three wins on the trot when taking out the $125,000 BRC QTIS Jewel Prelude (1110m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Yarraman Park's Hellbent sired a metro treble on Saturday.

Trained by Kelly Schweida and ridden by Cejay Graham, Sunrays was sent out favourite and kept her record intact with another tenacious effort. She loomed up three wide to take the lead and kick away before holding off a late surge from the runner-up Vivika to win by a neck taking her overall record to three wins in as many starts with prizemoney topping $143,000.

Not offered at auction, Sunrays was retained to race by her breeder Peter Moran and comes from a family that has enjoyed much success racing in his green and white colours.

She is the first living foal of Hiccups, an unraced Fastnet Rock grand-daughter of Moran’s million dollar earning multiple Group II winner Staging, who was by Success Express (USA), a stallion that spent a portion of his long and many storied stud career at the former Moran owned Noble Park Stud in Queensland.

Not only an elite racemare, Staging was a remarkable producer leaving Group I winners Excites and Duporth as well as Group II winner Tickets and she was also the grand-dam of Champion South African 2YO Colt and dual Group I winning sprinter Delago Deluxe.

Hellbent had a winning double at Doomben with four year-old gelding Diablo Bolt scoring over 2200m for the Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald stable.

A $190,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Triple Crown Syndications from the Tyreel Stud draft, Diablo Bolt has  given his owners plenty of thrills with eight wins from 18 starts and over $200,000 in prizemoney.

In Sydney at Rosehill, Hellbent brought up the treble with another four year-old gelding Boston Rocks saluting in the Benchmark 78 event over 1000m for the Matt Dale stable.

A $100,000 Inglis HTBA May Yearling Sale purchase from Segenhoe Stud for Kurrinda Bloodstock / Singleton Racing, Boston Rocks has five wins and four placings from 16 starts earning over $362,000.

Hellbent is sitting in 15th place on the Australian General Sires List with 89 winners of $6.5million.
