A huge result for Aquis based Domesday in Saturday's $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens with his daughters Daysee Doom and Oregon's Day fighting out the finish.
It was Ron Quinton's crowd favourite Daysee Doom who turned back challenge after challenge from the chasing pack to give her trainer a third win in the race after Ofcourseican (2012) and Peeping (2016).
It was a first Group 1 win for Quinton's former apprentice Andrew Adkins who recently came out of his time.
Coincidently, Ofcourseican gave Kathy O'Hara her first Group 1 winner while Peeping was also the first winner at the elite level for Quinton's former apprentice Sam Clipperton.
"It's just amazing," Adkins said.
"To win my first Group I for Ron and on this mare, I couldn't have dreamed for a more memorable win."
There was not a semblance of a fluke about the win. Daysee Doom was made to work hard in the early stages. From barrier 14, Adkins gave the daughter of Domesday a positive ride, moving up on the outside of leader Flippant.
Hitting the lead 300 metres from home, Daysee Doom defied the heavily backed Victorian visitor Oregon's Day by a short-neck with last year's Coolmore Classic runner-up Silent Sedition clocking in third a further half-head back.
Narrowly beaten into fourth place in the same race last year, Daysee Doom advanced her record to 9 wins, 3 second and 2 thirds from 19 starts with earnings of 1,174,575.
The Coolmore Classic has been a good race for Quinton who won the race twice as a jockey
"She's as tough-as-teak, never knows when she is beaten and there were no excuses for the ones behind her because they all had the opportunity to beat her and they couldn't, simple as that" Quinton said.
"She's tough and sound so we will have a think about where she starts next."
Retained to race by her breeders Jack and Anthea Griffin, Daysee Doom is the only foal from stakes-placed Mister C (USA) mare See A Victory, who comes from the family of stakes-winners Cooldini and Correct Amoondo.
See A Victory, along with her foal by Street Boss, died in September 2015.
Domesday has not looked back since being purchased by Aquis from Darley at the start of 2016. He covered 141 mares last spring at a fee of $8,800.
Daysee Doom becomes the fourth Group 1 winner for the son of Red Ransom (USA) after Pressday, Doctor Doom and Ruthven.
