1st Stakes Win for Shooting To Win Bulletproof Mare

Craig Tompson - Saturday February 1

Progressive Shooting To Win mare She’s Bulletproof scored her first stakes win with a dominant effort in the Group III Lamaro's Hotel Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.

Given a positive ride by Mark Zahra from a wide gate, she found herself racing wide without cover just off the leaders but, despite somewhat of a tough run, accelerated impressively to prove a cut above the opposition.

At the finish, the Charlotte Littlefield trained four-year-old defeated Fancify (Niagara) by 2.8 lengths with Wrote To Arataki (Wrote) third.

The win takes her record to four wins, five seconds, and a third from 11 starts with earnings of $397,625.

uo;This horse is very special to us. It’s just really rewarding to get this horse to win this race today,” said Littlefield.

“She’s thoroughly deserved it. Just a few things we’ve changed around to get her to peak today.

“The main one was we did notice she got away from us a bit in the Geelong race.

“It was really really hard to get the weight off her. We had to strip her feed right back. Bit more roughage in the diet, a lot more swimming, work her harder.

“I’m not normally known as a trainer who works them too hard but she’s been worked pretty hard this girl and we’ve had to, every horse is different.

“You’ve just got to tailor everything to every horse and I think she’s taught me a lot.”

She’s Bulletproof is a half-sister to Group III placed Exceltic and is the best of five winners from five to race for Shamardal mare Offshore Sham. The family features Group I winner Hucklebuck and Group winners Stirling Grove and Bon's a Pearler.

Unfortunately it’s been a tough time since, with a series of unsuccessful pregnancies, however hopefully there’ll be more luck with the visit to Cylinder last season.

She's Bulletproof is the 12th stakes-winner for Deep Field's full brother Shooting to Win, who stands at Oakland Park Stud in WA these days after starting his stud career for Darley.
