Stallion Prospects on Show in G2 Australia Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 24

The Listed ATC Carrington Stakes (1000m) that was scheduled for this Saturday at Randwick was abandoned due to lack of entries, but the $350,000 Group II MVRC Australia Stakes (1200m) tonight at Moonee Valley has had no issue with nine acceptors that include two stallion prospects.

Widden Stud joined the ownership of high class Written Tycoon stallion Southport Tycoon last year and the Ciaron Maher trained four year-old is set to resume from a spell after a productive 2024 in which he won the Group I VRC Australian Guineas (1600m) and the Group I MVRC Manikato Stakes (1200m) in which he beat Growing Empire and I Wish I Win.

Tonight’s field is a big drop in grade on the last time Southport Tycoon stepped out at The Valley and if he can reproduce that effort he will be winning.

The Rosemont Stud Alliance are behind the John O’Shea and Tom Charlton trained Zoustar four year-old Schwarz, who can mix his form, but when he’s at his best the handsome bay can look very good and with two trials to have him ready for a first up tilt is going  to be in this for a long way.

Stay tuned tonight as these guys seek to enhance their stallion appeal, or could there be an upset with in form geldings It’sourtime and Steparty capable of winning without surprise.
