2YO Zany Girl Gets Black Type - Half-sister at MM Tas 2025

Craig Tompson - Sunday January 19

It’s been a big weekend with the babies for Prime Thoroughbreds with their unbeaten Needs Further filly Zany Girl gaining a black type victory in the Kevin Sharkie Elwick Stakes in Tasmania.

Zany Girl as a yearling

At Flemington on Saturday Prime Thoroughbreds had Bivouac two-year-old filly Cavalry Girl win at her second start, and on Sunday they saw Zany Girl start an even money favourite off the back of two runs for two wins prior.

She was slowly away from her rails draw however recovered sufficiently to settle on the rails ahead of midfield and once pulled to the outside by Anthony Darmanin she balanced nicely and found to line too well.

On the line it was a trifecta for trainer Stu Gandy with Zany Girl defeating Crack The Shutters (Alpine Eagle) by a neck with Geegees Missile (Wordsmith) third.

The win takes her record to three wins from three starts with earnings of 145800.

Zany Girl was a $65,000 purchase for Prime Thoroughbreds from the Armidale Stud draft at the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

She is the third winner from four to race for Ladoni mare Isn't Life Strange, a half-sister to stakes winning Savoire Vivre pair Life To The Full and What Life Brings.

Armidale will offer the half-sister by Gold Standard at the MM Tasmanian Sale this year as Lot 21.

Zany Girl stakes winner number eight for Needs Further who stands at Armidale Stud.
