Impressive Debut Winner for King’s Legacy

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 11

A dual Group I winning juvenile by the legendary Redoute’s Choice, King’s Legacy is on the board with his first winner after flying filly Kujenga upstaged the colts to score a brilliant debut victory at the metro meeting at Wyong on Saturday.

Trained by Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald, Kujenga had two recent trials under her belt to have her ready for 1200m first up and she rose to the challenge jumping swiftly from an outside gate to cross and lead.

She travelled smoothly on the fence for Harry Davies and gave a great kick turning for home that allowed her to get a break on her rivals with Hellbent colt Damien closing late to be beaten a long neck.

“She was very impressive. She really pinged the lids and after that she was never going to be caught,” said stable representative Megan O’Leary.

Harry Davies rode Kujenga in her most recent trial and had expected a good run.

“She’s got that really good gate speed and once we got to the fence I knew she’d be hard to beat,” he said.

Kujenga was a $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Lime Country Thoroughbreds for Triple Crown Syndications, so had a big group of owners on hand to greet her at the winners stall.

Foaled and  raised at Segenhoe, Kujenga has already banked $105,000 for her first win and is the first foal of Jenga, a winning half-sister by All Too Hard to stakes-winner Granny Red Shoes (the dam of stakes-winner High Octane) and also to the dam of stakes-winner Brave Spirit.

Segenhoe Stud sold the second foal of Jenga, a filly by Stay Inside, at Magic Millions this week to Michael Hickmott Bloodstock for $200,000.

Kujenga is the first winner for King’s Legacy, who also had a big result in the sale ring this week at Magic Millions when Longwood Thoroughbred Farm sold a lovely filly by him from Miss Venezuela that made $425,000.
