First Light Racing Purchase $900,000 Frankel Colt

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 8

Juddmonte Farm’s champion sire Frankel was the leading sire by average at Magic Millions last year and he made a splash on Wednesday at the sale when his colt from Australian bred mare Cleanup sold for $900,000.

$900,000 Frankel colt from Cleanup.

Consigned by Vinery Stud, the half-brother to Australian dual Group I winner and $2.5million earner Nettoyer was purchased by First Light Racing and will be trained by Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald.

Tim Wilson of First Light Racing was thrilled to secure the blueblood colt.

“It’s unreal, we thought he was the nicest colt here,” said Tim Wilson.

“I’ve been lucky enough the last two years to travel the world and see all the Europeans Frankels as well and what I love about him is he’s got that Australian physique to him.

“He looks forward, he looks early, he’s so strong but he’s not overly heavy. He’s just a lovely-moving Australian-type of colt and he’s by the best sire in the world.

“Annabel and Rob just love him as well and we’ve been on the phone ringing some of our best owners the last 24 hours to whet the appetite and get us in the position to buy.”

The colt was bred by Bill Pearce’s Bromfield Park, who bought his dam Cleanup for $260,000 at the 2020 Inglis Chairman’s Sale when in foal to The Autumn Sun. She produced a filly from that mating that was sold subsequently as a yearling for $400,000 and then another filly by Exceed and Excel that also sold for $400,000.

After she missed in 2021, the decision was taken to send Cleanup to Frankel in the UK and the $900,000 colt is the result.

She has since been kept in Australia and had a colt by Russian Revolution last year before being covered by Golden Slipper winner Shinzo.
