NZB South Island Sale Online

The New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series heads south to showcase the South Island Session with the 121-lot catalogue available online and arriving in the post late next week for viewing.

The Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch will host the Sale on Friday 20 April with selling commencing from 11am.

Predominantly an auction of yearlings, they account for 120 of the 121 lots catalogued with all yearlings entered eligible to be nominated for the lucrativeKaraka Million Serieswhich comprises of two $1 million races – the Karaka Million 2YO and the Karaka Million 3YO Classic – in addition to the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup which they can contest for the duration of their career.

The yearling section will be followed by the unraced stock section offering the final lot of the Sale.

South Island Sale graduates have a rich history of gaining substantial returns on their purchase price, and this season so far has delivered five stakes wins from five individual runners that cost between $15,000 and $32,500 at the Sale.

Shadows Cast(NZ) (Per Incanto) kicked off the 2017-18 season in style with a win in the Group 2 Coupland's Bakeries Mile with Fully Funded(NZ) (Fully Fledged) claiming the Counties Bowl in quick succession. The New Year saw two victories in Australian territory with Parthesia(NZ) (Raise the Flag) winning the Bagot Handicap and Civil Disobedience(NZ) (Raise the Flag) taking the lead in the Tasmanian Derby. Taking the tally to five,Boots 'n' All(NZ) (Perfectly Ready) triumphed in the Timaru Stakes.

The $5,500 two-year-old graduate Signify(NZ) (Perfectly Ready) became one of the greatest bargain purchases of the Sale's history with an impressive win in the 2017 Group 1 Telegraph Handicap whileNatuzzi(NZ) (Coats Choice) adds to that Group-winning list with a victory in the 2016 Group 3 Concorde Handicap.

There are a total of 28 vendors offering drafts at the Sale this year with the progeny from a range of 44 sires. There are siblings to eight stakes performers while two yearlings are out of stakes-winning dams.
