Stakes Double for Hinchinbrook

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 4
Yarraman Park sires were in hot form at the weekend with I Am Invincible siring Santos to win the Group II ATC Skyline Stakes at Randwick, while Hinchinbrook posted a two state stakes double with Seabrook an exciting winner of the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes and classy mare Flippant returning to top form in the Group III VRC Frances Tressady Stakes at Flemington.

SeabrookBalloted out of last week's Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes, Seabrook overcame a tough run to win the Sweet Embrace Stakes with Hugh Bowman declaring she's got "Slipper written all over her".

After drawing a wide gate, luck wasn't with the Mick Price trained Seabrook (image Steve Hart) with Hugh Bowman forced to sit four wide and without cover for the majority of the race.

She loomed strongly in the straight however and maintain a powerful run to the line to win by a half length from I Am Invincible filly Fiesta.

It was the third start for the filly who was forced to miss the Blue Diamond after a luckless third in the Blue Diamond Prelude behind Enbihaar at her latest start didn't give her enough in the ballot to gain a start.

It may have been the blessing however with Bowman excited by the performance and the likely improvement.

"She was a bit new going this way for the first time."

"I would think she'll improve a lot for the experience of running here."

"It's testing conditions. She had to do it hard and she was tough late. Slipper written all over her."

Seabrook was foaled in New Zealand when herdam Midnight Revels returned home after being served by Hinchinbrook.

Midnight Revels is a half-sister to Group II winner My Emotion from a family which includes Group I ATC Coolmore Classic winner Aloha.

The 12th stakes-winner for Hinchinbrook, Seabrook was an $85,000 buy for Blueblood Thoroughbreds from the Maluka Thoroughbreds draft at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale last year.

Bringing up the stakes double for Hinchinbrook was the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Flippant, who led throughout to score a neck win in the 1400 metre mares sprint.

Flippant - Grant CourtneyWinless since taking out a Listed race at Flemington in Cup week back in 2016, Flippant was overdue for another win and took her overall record to six wins and six placings from 23 starts with prizemoney of $655,360.

A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase for McKeever Bloodstock from the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft, Flippant runs for a big syndicate that includes Yarraman Park, who stand her sire Hinchinbrook.

She's bred to be good as the second winner from two to race for Lady Beckworth, who is a winning half-sister by General Nediym to the dam of Group I stars Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel.

Closely related to Atlantic Jewel, who is by Hinchinbrook's sire Fastnet Rock, Flippant was the most expensive filly from the first crop of Hinchinbrook, so it's fitting to see her evolve as such a smart mare.

Lady Beckworth was sold as part of the Bell River Dispersal in 2016 at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale where she was snapped up by Henry Field Bloodstock for $400,000 in foal to Hinchinbrook.

Newgate Farm will offer the full brother to Flippant at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 194.
