Santos Filly Wins Tasmanian Guineas

Craig Tompson - Friday January 3

Lightly raced Santos filly Moorlands Miss overcame a wide run to score a brave first stakes win at just her fourth start in Friday’s Tasmanian Guineas (LR).

Ridden by Codi Jordan, the Glenn Stevenson trained daughter of Santos was forced to race three wide without cover throughout before maintaining a determined effort to defeat Magnaprime (Magnus) by 1.5 lengths with Azonto (Stratosphere) third.

The win takes her record to two wins and a third from just 4 four starts with earnings of $94,250.

The filly had been a $22,000 purchase for Stevenson from the Glastonbury Farms draft at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale before being re-offered at the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale however didn’t make reserve.

She’s by Santos out of Galileo mare Eyelean, a half-sister to Group II South African winner Super Profit, and daughter of Asian Incline (Slant), a 16-time winner, four times stakes winner and twice Group One placed.

Eyelean had one more foal, a two-year-old filly by Prague in 2022 named Loo Rye Sye and was retired in 2023.

Moorlands Miss is the third stakes winner for I Am Invincible stallion Santos which includes Group One winning juvenile Ulanova.

Santos re-located to New Zealand’s Highview Stud in 2023 where he stood last season at a fee of $8,000.
