Second Stakes Win for Cable Bay's Tough Bubba's Bay

Craig Tompson - Saturday December 28

Cable Bay’s “incredibly tough” daughter Bubba’s Bay is in career best form and took her second stakes win with a brave performance in the Listed Magic Millions Nudgee Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Cable Bay

Asked to maintain an effort from her wide gate, Bubba’s Bay finished outside the lead and had an admirable kick into the straight which saw her able to hold out a throng of finishers, which ultimately saw less than three lengths from first to last in the 15 horse field.

Ridden by Andrew Mallyon, the Kris Lees trained five-year-old defeated Midnight In Tokyo (Kobayashi) by a neck with Shalaa's Moment (Shalaa) third.

“She’s just incredibly tough,” said Andrew Mallyon.

“Hadn’t planned to sit outside the leader. A couple kicked up underneath and the speed sort of settled down so I was able to have a really good break.

“I was able to nurse her right into the straight.

“With her runs spaced she’s bullet proof.”

The win takes her record to 11 wins and 8 thirds from 25 starts with earnings of $638,900.

Bubba's Bay was a $130,000 purchase for the late Gwenda Markwell from her breeder’s Bowness Stud draft at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Bubba's Bay is the best of four winners from four to race for Commands mare Lift All Boats.

She has an unraced two-year-old colt by D’Argento named Silver Bullet, foaled a colt to D’Argento this year and was returned to him again this season.
