Breednet - Thursday December 26

Jamie Mott was able to get Ashford Street into a perfect spot, one off the fence tracking the leaders and the Tom Dabernig trained gelding kicked strongly to beat Mrs Chrissie (Per Incanto) by a half length with It'sourtime (Time For War) third.

The win takes his record to 11 wins, six seconds, and four thirds from 44 starts with earnings of $915,200.

Having been mixing his form a little over nine runs since May, he was heading for a spell before a change of heart saw him back a little sooner for the good result.

“We were considering turning him out, and the owner Peter McClaren said, why don’t we just give him a short little break, and target him for something over the summer,” Dabernig said.

“He used to be a wet-tracker, but then his best form of late has been on dry tracks, so we thought it was worth a try.

“He’s obviously on the older side now but he felt fantastic going to the barriers. He was able to get into a beautiful spot and he won nicely,” said Mott

“Really proud of his efforts when he was getting challenged.

“He’s a wonderful horse, pleasure to ride and he’s obviously really enjoying his life at the moment.”

Ashford Street is a half-brother to Listed Carlyon Stakes winner Grandview Avenue out of Peter McLaren’s overachieving Magic Albert mare Magic By Gosh.

Purchased for $15,000 at the 2008 Inglis March Thoroughbred Sale, Magic By Gosh had six foals before her death in a paddock accident in August 2019 when in foal to Squamosa.

Five of the six made the track, and all won.

Ashford Street is her final foal.

Moshe, the full brother to Black Caviar who was exported to Indonesia in 2019.
