Magic Millions Order of Entry Updated – Blue Point Fillies on the Rise

Tara Madgwick - Monday December 23

After a busy weekend of racing, the Magic Millions order of entry for the 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas have been given a shake up with two fillies by Blue Point (IRE), a stallion that has had a mixed reception Australia, shooting into contention for the big day at the Gold Coast on January 11.

Two years ago, the first crop of yearlings by Darley shuttler Blue Point were the bomb at Magic Millions with 16 yearlings averaging $378,125 to make him the leading first season sire by average. He was also seventh on the overall sire averages and well above the overall sale average of $292,926.

His top seller at $900,000 was the half-brother to Amelia’s Jewel that has since been named Bosustow with a maiden win to his credit and a couple of stakes-placings including a third in the Group I BRC JJ Atkins behind Broadsiding.

The next highest priced at $750,000 was a colt from Sistonic that has raced as Scampi and sadly not delivered on potential. Trained by Ciaron Maher, Scampi trialled up like a superstar at the spring trials and started favourite in the Breeder’s Plate, but faded sharply to finish unplaced and has not placed in three starts since.

At Magic Millions 2024, the response to Blue Point was not as warm and he had 13 yearlings average $215,000 with his top seller a colt from multiple Group I winner Kenedna that made $500,000.

Selling for $300,000 was Icarian Dream and just $60,000 was Vein Girl and both have zoomed into contention for the MM 2YO Classic with the former winning the Group III BRC BJ McLachlan Stakes and the latter winning the $250,000 Magic Millions Debut.

Magic Millions obviously took the view Blue Point was not going to be popular at 2025 sales and he has just four yearlings entered for the Gold Coast next month.

Blue Point colt Bosustow is in the market for the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas and won a trial at Hawkesbury last week to tune him up with his most recent race a second in Listed company at Flemington on November 5.
