Tassie Stakes Races on Wednesday

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 1
The Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes at Launceston on Wednesday was won by rank outsider Tiesto, a bargain $11,000 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale purchase.

Trained by the father and daughter partnership of Ken and Tanya Hanson, Tiesto scored a half length win having been fourth, third and then second at his previous three starts.

"It's been a while since we've won a big race, but we thought he would run well, he's improved on every run and look I'm just speechless," Tanya Hanson said.

"He was just so laid back early doors so we knew he would make a good two-year-old as he had the right temperament.

"He's just gradually progressed every start and he went up another gear today."

Tough SpeedTiesto is by Tough Speed (USA) from French Lace, an unraced half-sister to stakes-winner Superfly from stakes-winner Allez France.

Armidale Stud sold his full brother at the 2018 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale for $26,000.

He is the fifth stakes-winner for Tough Speed (USA), who stands at Armidale Stud.

Other Launceston features on Wednesday were the Listed Mowbray Stakes won by Hellova Street (7g Helike (USA) x Butter Street) and the Group III Launceston Cup won by Bondeiger (6h War Pass (USA) x Debutante Robe).
