Russian Revolution Retired

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 27

Speculation on the racing future of last Saturday's Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate winner Russian Revolution has been ended with an announcement from Newgate Farm heralding his retirement.

Russian Revolution - Grant CourtneyAn unbeaten two-year-old that developed into a Group 1 winning sprinter at both three and four, the son of reigning champion sire Snitzel will take up stud duties at Newgate Farm in 2018.

"Russian Revolution has nothing more to prove and the owners have elected to retire him on a winning note, " said his co-trainer Peter Snowden.

"He's absolutely one of the quickest horses we have ever trained."

A $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase, Russian Revolution retires with the overall record of seven wins from 11 starts with prizemoney of $1.2 million.

A half-brother to Group III winner Turbo Miss from Ballet D'Amour (USA), he comes from a peerless stallion producing family claiming legendary matriarch Fanfreluche as his fourth dam.

Champion Australian sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur are also her descendants and Russian Revolution will seek to follow in their footsteps.

A service fee will be announced in due course.
