First Win for Record Priced Russian Revolution Filly

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 20

An interesting winner at Canterbury on Friday night was blue-blooded Russian Revolution mare Madam Instrife, who carried the colours of Gilgai Farm to her first ever win in the 1100m maiden.

Trained by Team Hawkes and ridden by Tyler Schiller, Madam Instrife has been a work in progress for a long time, but the four year-old had shown nice ability placing in three previous starts this year and came into this assignment second up from a spell and ready to fire.

She forged clear at the finish to win by more than a length and will take confidence from the win.

Madam Instrife was an $850,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Sledmere Stud draft for Dermot Farrington Bloodstock Pty Ltd on behalf of Gilgai Farm making her the highest priced yearling filly by Russian Revolution and his second highest priced overall.

Madam Instrife was an $850,000 Inglis easter purchase.

She came with a big pedigree as a half-sister to Group I winning $3million earner Invincibella, Group III winner Secret Blaze and stakes-winner Extreme Warrior, not to mention Temolie, the dam of this season’s rising star three year-old filly Aeliana, who won the Group III VRC Carbine Club Stakeas and was second in the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas.

Madam Instrife is the fifth winner from seven to race from blue hen Abscond, an unraced Aussie bred daughter of Galileo (IRE).

Abscond has a yearling colt by Stay Inside that is headed towards Inglis Easter and produced a filly this spring by I Am Invincible that is a full sister to Invincibella, but sadly the prized filly is her final foal as this remarkable producer died not long after.
