Woodside Park Sires Dominate

Media Release - Tuesday February 27

Woodside Park Stud had plenty to celebrate last weekend with the outstanding win of Written Tycoon's son, Written By in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, the tough fighting victory of Sunlight the Group 2 Silver Slipper and their future stallion, Tosen Stardom (Jpn) back to his best and ready to take on the Sydney Carnival.

Written By - Grant CourtneyWritten By's Blue Diamond victory had to be seen to be believed, as the lightly raced colt showed maturity beyond his years to thrash a high-quality field in Victoria's richest and most prestigious two-year-old contest.

Handing his sire his fifth individual Group 1 winner, Written By has cemented Written Tycoon as one of the great stallions of recent times.

As Woodside Park Stud's Matt Tillett points out, "there is nothing more important than Group 1 winners of two-year-old races and Written Tycoon has now won the double, the Blue Diamond and the Golden Slipper."

"It's incredible really, he has again proven that he is capable of producing the very best two-year-old's in the country and that his colts are fast and precocious".

"This is what the big yearling buyers are looking for; the future stallion prospect ideal for a commercial stud roster".

"With four weeks until the Golden Slipper, Written By will be given an easy week, before any firm decisions are made as to his next assignment. With Graham Begg being a brilliant horseman and trainer, there is no doubt, he will make the right decision." Tillett said.

And if Written By does head to the Slipper there is a very talented filly, by the name of Sunlight that he will be meeting head on.

"It would be incredible for Woodside Park Stud if we had Zoustar's Sunlight and Written Tycoon's Written By going head to head in the Slipper."

"The current Two-Year-Old Sire tables have just been released, and there is Zoustar and Written Tycoon, one – two. It's a brilliant achievement for Woodside Park Stud and for the Victorian breeding industry," Tillett said.

Zoustar's claim on the number one position is thanks to the tough, fighting victory of Sunlight in the Group 2 Silver Slipper at Rosehill.

"It was an incredible race, they put about eight lengths on the field. It goes to show what a master trainer Tony McEvoy is, and she is no doubt going to improve."

Sunlight wins the Silver SlipperSunlight (image Steve Hart) will possibly have another run a week out from the Golden Slipper at Rosehill in the Magic Night Stakes on March 17, following the same pattern as McEvoy used before her Magic Millions success.

With the Woodside Park Stud yearlings having arrived at Oaklands, and with 47 Written Tycoon's and 38 Zoustar's catalogued in the Premier Sale, these race results are not only good timing for the stud, but also brilliant for their loyal breeders.

"This crop being offered was Woodside Park Stud's breakthrough year, when we had Zoustar at $40,000 and Written Tycoon at $18,000. It was the first time the larger, commercial breeders had put faith in us and we are looking forward to them reaping the rewards," Tillett said.

And when they thought the weekend couldn't get any better, Woodside was thrilled to see their future sire, Tosen Stardom back to his best in the Group 1 Futurity.

"Everything that could go wrong last start did, buthe is now going as well as ever, and it was so exciting to see him back at his peak."

"He is already proven as being one of the best 1400 metre to 2000 metre horses in the country and we would love him to add another Group 1 to his two Group 1 wins from last spring, before he heads to the Woodside stallion barn.".

"At the moment we have two stallions with runners to date; Written Tycoon and Zoustar, who both have incredible strike rates, and they are complimented by the impeccably bred son of Invincible Spirit, Cable Bay and Written's fastest son, Rich Enuff," Tillett said.

"It's a very hot, commercial stallion roster that will only be strengthened with the addition of the beautifully pedigreed and performed Tosen Stardom."
