Private Harry – Who is Cheering Him On?

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 13

A week ago, Private Harry was just another promising three year-old looking to step up in grade, but after posting his third win from three starts at Rosehill last Saturday and securing the slot of B2B Thoroughbreds in the $3million Magic Millions Sunlight (1100m) to be run on January 4, he’s the talk of the town.

Trained by Nathan Doyle, the Harry Angel (IRE) gelding won his first two starts at Newcastle and Hawkesbury last month by a combined margin of nearly 11 lengths and then took out the Benchmark 72 event over 1200m last Saturday.

A $115,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Rheinwood Pastoral, Private Harry has banked $171,000 and change from his first three wins and will now get the chance to race for huge money at the Gold Coast in a race for which he has been put up as second favourite behind Golden Slipper winner Lady of Camelot.

Bred and sold by Southern Highlands based nursery Rheinwood Pastoral, Private Harry is the third winner from four to race from Happy Pilgrim, a half-sister to stakes-placed duo Paredo and Snipzu, the dam of Group I placed Don Corleone and The Drinks Cart. The family has also produced Group I winner Arkady and Group winners Olonana and Paris Petard.

Rheinwood Pastoral will offer a yearling half-sister to Private Harry by first season sire Captivant at Inglis Classic as Lot 274.

It’s quite a commercial family with a number of offshoots being bred to commercial sires and there are three more yearlings with a connection to Private Harry at upcoming sales and they include an Extreme Choice colt that is closely related to Don Corleone, who stood his first season at Eureka Stud this year.

Offered at Magic Millions as Lot 764 by Silverdale Farm, this Extreme Choice colt is the first foal of stakes-placed Paredo.
