Another Classic contender for Baker

Breednet - Friday February 23
With Murray Baker having won three of the last five ATC Australian Derby's, it's worth noting the stables comments after Mongolian Marshall broke his maiden on Wednesday at Avondale.

Mongolian Marshall. Photo: Trish Dunnell. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained son of High Chaparral, won over a mile at Avondale on Wednesday at his second start but isn't in Gr.1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby (2400m) contention.

"That might come up a bit soon, but there are other Derbys," Forsman said. "He's always showed a lot and as he matures he can only get better."

He also indicated the three-year-old is likely to wear blinkers next time out.

Mongolian Marshall was a $220,000 purchase at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the Cambridge Stud draft.

He is out of Ardeche, a stakes placed half-sister to handy stayer Zephyron and from a branch of the famous Eight Carat family with his third dam being champion 3YO filly Tristalove, winner of the AJC Oaks who in turn is out of Diamond Lover, dam of Australian Derby winner Don Eduardo.
