One To Watch - Sale

Mark Smith - Tuesday February 20

On this day eight years ago, Linda Meech guided the Oamaru Force filly Mid Summer Music to victory at her career debut in a Maiden a 1200 metre maiden Warracknabel.

Trainer Peter Moody thought the chestnut with a blue-collar pedigree had had her moment in the sun but when her career came to a close three years later Mid Summer Music had banked almost $1.4 million for her connections with 11 wins highlighted by a thumping of Buffering in the 2012 Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm.

Sent to the 2013 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Mid Summer Music was purchased by Tyreel Stud for $300,000.

Covered by All Too Hard, Mid Summer Music was back in the sale ring a year later at the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale where she was purchased by Bruce Perry Bloodstock, on behalf of Cressfield Stud, for $375,000.

Cressfield retrieved $225,000 of that back when the All Too Hard colt was knocked down to Dermot Farrington at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Named See It Thru (pictured as a yearling )  and sent to Mick Kent, that colt broke his maiden at the first time of asking the leading all the way in a 1213m maiden at Sale on Tuesday.

Carrying the colours of Rick Jamieson’s Gilgai Farm, See It Thru defeated Big Shaka (Big Brown) by one and a quarter lengths with Dream Brother (Helmet) a half-head back in third.

"He will certainly be better over further," Kent said

"We drew down and I’m sure the track is better out wide but we decided to stay there being his first start and chance his got enough ability to get through.

"He’s a nice horse, has taken a bit of time, the All Too Hard breed get better as they get older. Once he gets up to a mile you will probably see him go to another level.

See It Thru is the first foal of Mid Summer Music who has a Fastnet Rock filly in the Cressfield draft at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in April.

After foaling a Not A Single Doubt filly last spring, Mid Summer Music was bred back to Fastnet Rock.
