Blue Diamond winners at stud

Darryl Sherer - Tuesday February 20

The Blue Diamond Stakes is Victoria's premier two-year-old race but how have its male winners fared at stud?

There have been 21 entire winners of the race go to stud with varied success. More than half have sired Group I winners with one clearly more successful than the others.

Redoute's Choice won the race in 1999 at just his second start and seven days after making his debut.Redoute's Choice

At stud with foals conceived in both hemispheres he has 153 stakes winners with 32 Group I winners including two male winners of the Blue Diamond Stakes in Nadeem and Undoubtedly.

Nadeem is now at Little Avondale Stud in New Zealand having commenced his stud career in Australia. The 2006 winner currently has 14 stakes winners from 267 runners including Group I winner Sterling City.

The winner with the next best record at stud is Zeditave with 36 stakes winners and seven Group I winners including Strategic, himself the sire of four Group I winners, as well as Group II winner and Magic Albert, also the sire of four Group I winners.

Tolerance won the first running of the race however, his stud career was less successful. From three seasons at stud the best he could manage was three stakes placed runners.

Below is a table of the stud records of male Blue Diamond winners.
