Records Smashed at Best Ever Day of Perth Yearling Sale

Records tumbled across the board as Book One of the 2018 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale produced the best selling day in the history of the event.

Not A Single Doubt x All Friared UpThree yearlings sold for $200,000 or more and 28 sold for six figures during a record trading day at the pin up Western Australian bloodstock event of the year.

Unprecedented interest in the new format of the sale led to a new record price for a day's selling in Perth as well as a record median and what is understood to be an Australian record clearance for a major yearling sale.

Over 94% of all lots offered on the day were sold returning a gross of over $8.35 million and average price of $64,258. The median price was $50,000.

The top seller on the day was Lot 19, the Not a Single Doubt-All Friared Up colt from Dawson Stud who was snapped up by Victoria Peak Bloodstock from Queensland for $210,000.

Graham Daws of Dawson Stud was delighted with the result and said the result justified his decision to sell the youngster at his local auction.

"I thought he was a very good colt in conformation," Daws said. "We brought him back to WA because he was from All Friared Up who is a WA mare."

"We thought he would go well over here and we have got a better than I expected result," he added.

Recent Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic winning trainer Simon Miller went to $200,000 to secure his star lot of the sale – the Nicconi-Fully Chargeable filly from Touchstone Farm.

"I actually trained her mum and she was extremely quick but she never got to the races," Miller said.

"She's a quality filly and I was just lucky I had enough gunpower to be able to get her," he added.

Long time local champion horseman Neville Parnham was active buying six lots for $547,000, lead by the Zoustar-Magnus Missile colt for $200,000.

By the same sire as 2018 Magic Millions Classic heroine Sunlight, the colt is the first foal of her dam, a five time winner and was presented for sale by Mogumber Park.

Pearce Racing wasthe leading buyeron the day, spending $764,500 on eight lots, while the Yarradale Stud draft grossed over $1 million. Amelia Park Breeding and Racing was again leading vendor on average with their six lots soldaveraging $122,667.

"It was an amazing day," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "The positivity around the grounds before the sale was phenomenal and I'd say we've had one of the greatest day's selling inPerth Yearling Sale history."

"The confidence in the local racing industry was shown here today. There's great prizemoney, great incentives and they've come here to buy horses."

"It's an amazing clearance rate. It's would have to be one of the highest clearance rates in the history of sales. We're at 94%, almost 95% and with an average of over $64,000, it's been a phenomenal day's selling."

"The revised format of the sale created great momentum and the results certainly exceeded our expectations."
