One to Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 21

Castelvecchio has gone from nowhere to somewhere during the course of this spring with three stakes-winners putting his name in lights and he had a promising three year-old colt salute at Hawkesbury on Thursday that has now won two of three starts.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Shangri La Spring made his debut with a second at Goulburn back in May before resuming to win at Kembla on November 5.

He was a short priced favourite for the 1400m Class 1 today with Tim Clark on board and raced away to win by two and a half lengths.

A $325,000 Magic Million spurchase from Arrowfield for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing/Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Shangri La Spring is a sibling to three stakes-placed horses and is the seventh winner from seven to race from stakes-winning Redoute’s Choice mare Opportunity.

Shangri La Spring is a lot like his sire!

Given he is MM eligible and the rich January carnival at the Gold Coast looms large on the horizon it’s not hard to see Shangri La Spring being aimed in that direction if he continues to progress.
