Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 19

There were two heats for juveniles at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning with winners including a full brother to this year’s Group III VRC Red Roses Stakes winner Amelita.

Trained by John O’Shea and Tom Charlton, Zousain colt Buckeye was having his second trial after being thrashed by Hayek in a heat at the same track on November 8 when he was 14 lengths astern of the winner. This time he did everything right to travel behind the speed and when ridden along to the line he let down to win by half a length.

Buckeye was a $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from Cressfield for John O'Shea Racing/James Bester Bloodstock and was bred by Richard Pegum, who retains a share in his ownership. He is the second foal of winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Miss Amelia, a daughter of brilliant Group II ATC Silver Slipper winner Amelia’s Dream and her first is Group winning filly Amelita.

The third foal from Miss Amelia is another filly by Zousain that will be offered by Cressfield as Lot 662.

Running quicker time in the heat for fillies was the Bjorn Baker trained Blue Point (IRE) filly Sapphire Rose, who had the benefit of an inside draw and went forward to lead on the fence. She worked to the line well to win by a length and three-quarters, but there was a lot to like about the run of her stablemate Rainbow Glow in second. A baldy faced chestnut carrying the Cressfield colours, Rainbow Glow jumped fast but was allowed to travel deep and was held together all the way, she’s a big strong thing that will take good benefit from the outing.

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from Bhima Thoroughbreds for MyRacehorse Pty Ltd/Bjorn Baker Racing/Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA)/Clarke Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Sapphire Rose is a half-sister to two winners from Group III winner Rocket Commander.
