Redemption for Another Prophet in G1 Thousand Guineas

Mark Smith - Saturday November 16

Another Prophet had to make up three and a half lengths on Aeliana from their last meeting in the Carbine Club Stakes, and it all fell perfectly into place in Saturday’s $1,500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.

Ridden by Ethan Brown for Ciaron Maher, the daughter of Brazen Beau enjoyed a trouble-free run just off the pace while the favourite Aeliana was near the tail of the field and was baulked for run on straightening.

Another Prophet headed the leader Too Darn Lizzie at the 150m.  Aeliana (Castelvecchio) came with a barnstorming finish to fall a neck short with a further one-and-a-quarter lengths back to Too Darn Lizzie (Too Darn Hot), who fought on bravely for third.

It was the first win for Another Prophet since breaking her maiden at Sale on May 29.

“We knew she was on the right trajectory and thought there was a little bit of improvement in her coming out of her last run,” Maher said

“She ran a peak last start so that gave us the confidence going forward. It was obviously a bit of a roll at the stumps, but that was the science behind it.

“She has thrived and as I said to Brownie going out, I think we can win this.

“He rode her so confidently, it was a very comfortable watch.

“The team has done a super job with her, just fantastic for the Ferguson family.

“They always said they were going to send me a good one. I bought a couple that were not so good, but how good for a family-run operation, I’m sure they’ll be thrilled.

I wanted her to drop her head after the first furlong or so. Once I saw her nose drop, I thought we’re in business here.

“Brownie is a good mate, we’ve had some great wins together and hopefully there's plenty more in store.”

Ethan Brown said it all went to script.

“She’s always had good ability and certainly with the right trainer,” he said.

“I think she’s just progressed. She lobbed in a beautiful spot was a bit keen early, which I was a bit worried about that. But as Ciaron said, once she dropped her head she travelled sweet and built into it beautifully and showed her true colours today.”

Bred and part-owned by Bell River Thoroughbreds and Bob Hogno, Another Prophet carries the colours of her half-sisters, Group II MRC Rubiton Stakes winner Prophet’s Thumb and Group III Dark Jewel Classic winner More Prophet’s (Smart Missile).

Her dam Set To Skelter (Reset) is a sister to the Listed VRC Bagot Hcp winner Module.

James Bester Bloodstock shelled out $250,000 for a Bivouac filly out of Set To Skelter consigned by Bell River Thoroughbreds to the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Set To Skelter was covered by Harry Angel (IRE) last spring and foaled a filly on September 13.

Another Prophet is the 27th stakes-winner and third Group 1 winner for Darley Stud’s Brazen Beau.
