$1.3 Million MM Sale-Topper Ready to Race

Clinton Payne - Thursday February 15

Peter and Paul Snowden are one of the best two-year-old training teams in the land and on Saturday they'll launch the career of one their prized juveniles in the $150,000 Pierro Plate (1100m) at Randwick.

Tchaikovsky, a bay colt by Redoute's Choice out of the Stravinsky mare, Ballet Blue was the $1.3 million sale topper at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale when bought by James Harron Bloodstock from the Arrowfield Stud draft.

Tchaikovsky made his first public appearance in a 745m metre trial at Randwick on January 29, placed under limited pressure, finishing a length behind Saturday's rival Santos before winning a 1045m heat at the same track on Monday.

"His two trials have been very impressive," Peter Snowden said.

"I was really impressed with him at the trials on Monday how he was acting before the trial, he was so relaxed which was great.

"He's still learning what it's about, he's been a little bit green in amongst horses but I can tell you there's no doubting his talent, he's a very smart horse."

Snowden said Tchaikovsky is behind where the trainer would have liked a couple of months ago due to "an early minor setback" which he described as "never ideal" but he's optimistic that the colt's natural ability can help him overcome a late start to his racing career.

"He's a horse with a great mind, he's got a lovely temperament," he said. "I have been very happy with his work.

"He'll run well on Saturday and it was good to get a nice draw (barrier two), that will help him.

"He's the right type of Redoute's Choice, not heavy, a bit more refined.

"He goes good."

Glyn Schofieldrode Tchaikovsky in Monday's trial and takes the reins again on Saturday.
