Strong trade continued on the fourth day of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale with an interesting horse set to join the Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald stable as turnover has already soared to be the second highest in the sale’s history with the fifth and final session still to come.
Lyric Set for Dual Purpose Career for O’Neill Racing
The joint highest priced lots on the fourth day of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale were both offered in quick succession by the Castlebridge Consignment and realised 85,000 guineas. The first through the sales ring was the TOO DARN HOT colt LYRIC, who was knocked down to Stroud Coleman’s Matt Coleman following a protracted bidding duel with Blandford Bloodstock’s Stuart Boman.
"He has been bought for Jonjo and AJ O'Neill, who were looking for a dual purpose type," reported Coleman. "This horse has got some good form and he won a nice novice at Windsor in the spring. He ran quite well in the Listed Cocked Hat at Goodwood in May, only beaten a neck by stablemate Pappano who made 200,000 guineas last night. Then he had a bit of a break and he ran quite well on Saturday behind Iron Lion and a few others who made a lot of money this week.
"His sister is blacktype over jumps, and the O'Neills will probably run him over hurdles this winter and then pop him back on the flat on some soft ground in the spring. The first job though will probably be a gelding operation!"
Trained by John and Thady Gosden for owner-breeder Denford Stud, the 88 rated three-year-old is out of the winning GALILEO mare GALA. His half-sister PRETENDING is a three-time winner over hurdles and was second in the Grade 3 Junior Fillies' Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham.
Native King Australia Bound for Annabel Neasham & Go Racing
NATIVE KING was the second lot to realise 85,000 guineas for the Castlebridge Consignment, offered this time on behalf of Hugo Palmer’s Manor House Stables. Lambourn-based trainer Dan Kubler made a strong play for the son of KINGMAN but it was Blandford Bloodstock’s Stuart Boman who made the final bid for Annabel Neasham Racing and Go Racing with the three-year-old colt joining the battalion of horses bound for Australia.
Annabel Neasham trained one of the Autumn Horses in Training Sale’s most illustrious Australian graduates in the four-time Group 1 winner ZAAKI, who was purchased for 150,000 guineas with Stuart Boman, with 2024 Group 2 Q22 winner FAWKNER PARK the latest Group winning graduate sourced by the team at Park Paddocks.
"I had bought 13 horses before this chap so I thought it was unlucky and I had better try for another one!" joked Boman. "He is a stunning horse and very well bred. I am good friends with Rob Speers, and Ibrahim Araci bred this horse and raced him. I had a good chat with Rob yesterday and trainer Hugo Palmer and they recommended the horse, who will benefit from gelding.
"He has got a big engine and a big turn of foot - at the start of the year he came from last at Chester to win. It was not a great race but the turn of foot he showed that day is what you need in Australia. He will also get a faster pace to run at and some firmer ground in Australia, which will suit. Kingman works in Australia.
"I have been working this sale for fifteen years, and it has been Blandford's best ever Autumn Horses in Training Sale - the most amount of horses bought and for the biggest outlay."
NATIVE KING is out of the Group placed GALILEO mare BUTTERSCOTCH, an own-sister to the Group 1 Irish Derby and Melbourne Cup runner up TIGER MOTH out of the Group 1 placed LESSON IN HUMILITY.
The Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale continues at 9.30am on Friday, 1st November with the fifth and final session.
