Ciaron Maher Active at Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 29

The Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale is a treasure trove of talent for Australian investors and Ciaron Maher struck early on day one of the sale to secure Go Daddy for 350,000 guineas.

Go Daddy sells for 350,000 guineas and will be coming to Australia.

A three year-old gelding by Smooth Daddy from stakes-winner Liby’s Dream, Go Daddy was offered by Linkslade Stables and was bought by Ciaron Maher Racing / JS Bloodstock.

"He profiles perfectly for Australia and I was chatting to Ciaron and he loved him and how consistent he was," said Will Bourne, Bloodstock Manager for Ciaron Maher.

"The plan is to keep him in work here with Harry [Eustace] then he’ll go down on the horses-in-training flight and we’ll target the Manion Cup, which Haggas has done really well in with Favourite Moon and Post Impressionist. We’ll aim to run him off the plane during the Sydney Carnival.

“We usually buy in our spring and then bring them out, but Harry has prepared horses like Sir Dragonet for us to win a Cox Plate, so Ciaron has full faith in Harry and they work very well together.

“Our max was 400,000gns and I’d have been thrilled to get him for 350,000gns, so anywhere between is pretty much bang on. He has that perfect profile for Australia so I don’t think he was missed by anyone.”

Go Daddy is the winner of one race – a 1m2f Nottingham handicap won off a BHA mark of 83 last October– but he has finished in the places six times, including two thirds in Group 3 races – the 1m6f Deutsches St Leger at Dortmund in September and the 1m5f Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in August.

He is BHA rated 105, and was fourth last time out in the Listed Noel Murless Stakes at Ascot over 1m6f.

The sale continues.
