Juvenile and Spring Trial Watch - Randwick

Breednet - Tuesday October 22

Tuesday barrier trials at Randwick saw 14 heats including two for juveniles while an expensive colt was trying to get his spring back on track.

Spirit Of Boom is one of the best in the country at producing two-year-old winners and he threw up another promising one with Extractor in Heat 10 for Michael Freedman.

Settling just off the pace, the colt stretched out particularly nicely over the last furlong to win with something in hand.

Heat 10

It’s looking like another strong year for the Eureka based stallion too, having had only three 2YO runners so far this season for two winners and also Shining Smile, placed in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes.

Eureka sold Extractor at the Magic Millions Gold Coast this year to Gandharvi and Michael Freedman for $300,000.

Heat 11 saw the first look at Pankhurst Lady, a two-year-old filly by Capitalist from Thunder Lady, trained by John Sargent.

She sat wide and pushed along to get past early leader Mrs Flanders in the final stages.

Heat 11

Pankhurst Lady was knocked down to G&G Bloodstock from the draft of Segenhoe Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast but remains racing in the colours of her breeder Go Bloodstock.

Her dam Thunder Lady won the G2 Wakeful Stakes at three before finishing second in the VRC Oaks. It’s a classy staying family which also includes Australian Derby winner Levendi and Australasian Oaks winner Tully Thunder.

The runner up Mrs Flanders was noteworthy as being only the second youngster seen at the trials so far by Widden Stud’s first season sire Anders.

A $60,000 buy for Tricolours Racing from Sledmere Stud at Inglis Classic, she showed good pace and kept going to the line strongly.

Earlier in the day Heat three saw the Harron Bloodstock owned colt Bodyguard given a thorough sounding out to win by nearly seven lengths as he tries to get his spring campaign back on track.

Having been shortlisted for Harron’s The Everest slot, the $1.6million yearling, who has won two stakes races to date in his five starts, disappointed when resuming in the Danehill Stakes shelving any Everest plans.

Heat 3

It’ll be interesting to see if he pushes on for a tilt at the Gr1Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day November 2.

There were other two year-old trials at other venues on the day also.

At Eagle Farm two heats were won by Amosu (Invader) and Maddie’s Comet (Cosmic Force), while at Newcastle the lone heat was won impressively by Buffalo (Written By)
