The Englishman tops Inglis Digital October (Early) as sales exceed $1.88 million

Media Release - Thursday October 10

The Inglis Digital October (Early) Online Sale has concluded this afternoon, with two lots realising $100,000 or more to bring to 94 the number of lots to reach that mark on Inglis Digital this year.

Topping the sale was The Englishman, a 5YO gelding by Tavistock who was offered by Snowden Racing on behalf of his ownership group, including managing owners Think Big Stud.

He was purchased by Victorian-based Mount Ararat Plumbing for $115,000.

The Englishman topped the sale.

“It’s always nice to top a sale,” Think Big Stud’s Managing Director Duncan Ramage said.

“Peter [Snowden] said he had a lot of interest and we thought the horse would sell reasonably well, as he a good prospect with lots of upside for buyers.

“He was a $200,000 yearling, but from our perspective he won $80,000 this preparation and has sold for $115,000 so that amounts to a $200,000 prep.

“For the owners he won just shy of $200,000 so it’s nice to get close to a break square, which is not always achieved in racing!

“The Digital platform is the fairest platform to dissolve a syndicate, especially for these large ownership groups with smaller percentages.

“We offer them unreserved so if someone wants to buy the horse outright, they can,” he said.

Fast Stakes-winning mare Little Miss Kubi (Headwater) was another six figure result, selling to Walnut Farm for $100,000.

A winner of the Listed Manihi Classic (1100m), defeating G1 performers Queman and Another Award, Little Miss Kubi was offered as a racing and breeding prospect by Greg Perry’s Greenwich Stud.

“Very pleased with the result,” Perry said.

“She’s a really nice mare, her dam [Miss Eisenstadt] unfortunately never made it to the track but granddam Fritz’s Princess (More Than Ready) was a G2-winning sprinter and ran second in the G1 Tatts Tiara in Brisbane.

“I’m just scaling back a little on my breeding numbers, I’ve sold several horses on Inglis Digital in the past 18 months and it’s a great service.

“It obviously wasn’t available to us only a few years ago but it’s a very cost efficient way to sell racing and breeding stock at any time of the year.

“Even though it’s getting late into the season now, I was really happy with the promotion the mare received and she’s gone to a great home that will give her every chance.”

Other significant results included Stakes-placed Fistsoffury (Dundeel), consigned by Hawkes Racing and bought by Kendrick Racing for $95,000, while Koning will be racing in the colours of The Racing League NSW, who purchased the Kingman gelding for $80,000.

Entries for the October (Lat) Online Sale are now open and will remain so until midnight (AEDT) on Wednesday, October 16.

The sale will run from October 18-23.

Recent winning graduates of the Inglis Digital platform include 3YO colt Pope Cody (Showtime), an impressive 7-length winner of the Toowoomba Guineas for local trainer and part-owner Cameron Richardson, who bought the colt as a yearling for just $5,500 in October 2022.

The first 2YO event of the 2024/25 racing season at Doomben on Saturday was won by another Digital yearling purchase, Betterlucknexttime (Zousain).

Bought for just $3,750 by Steven Skilton in August last year, the gelding earned more than $70,000 in prizemoney and the QTIS 2YO bonus, with trainer Liam Birchley considering a tilt at the $500,000 QTIS Jewel at the Gold Coast in March.

It was a bittersweet Inglis Digital victory in the Grand Singapore Gold Cup on Sunday, which marked the final race to be held at Kranji Racecourse as 182 years of Singapore racing came to an end.

Smart Star (Star Witness) gave trainer David Kok his first Singapore Gold Cup victory.

The 6YO gelding – known as Lonely Power in Australia – was bought by Eugene Lim for $15,000 in November 2022 having won two races at Warren and Dubbo respectively.
