Ridden by Kohei Matsuyama, Bicky First improved on his debut third at Chukyo to defeat the Frankel filly Canela Fina by one and a quarter lengths.

In the 1600m Newcomers race at Kyoto Mirai Iwata guided the Admire Mars (JPN) filly Theresa to a length win over the only other filly in the race Ai Sansan (Kazuma) to a length win.

Over at Niigata the Koshiro Take-trained colt Bunny Rabbit was sent off a short-priced favourite on his debut over 1400m and let no-one down. The son of Admire Mars (JPN) defeated the Real Steel (JPN) colt Takka Valiant by one and a half lengths.

There was further joy for Arrowfield when the day’s feature, the Group III Saudi Arabia Royal Cup (1400m) for 2-year-old at Tokyo was fought out by the Maurice colts, Arte Veloce and Taisei Current.

The honours went to Arte Veloce by a length. Arte Veloce, ridden by Daisuke Sasaki for Naosuke Sugai, made a winning debut over 1500m at Sapporo on July 27.
