I Am Invincible Filly Brave on Debut

Mark Smith - Friday February 2

It looked for all the world that Eurozone was about to register his first winner when the Darren Weir-trained debutant Krone put her head in front in the closing stages of Friday night's Indoor Sports Vic Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley, but the I Am Invincible filly Viennese Star climbed off the canvas to win by a short-head.

Also making her career debut, the Aaron Purcell-trained Viennese Star jumped in the air when the gates were released and was a clear last early.

Mark Zahra had Viennese Star in the three-wide lane coming into the home straight and she battled to a narrow lead.

She looked in trouble when Krone put a head on her halfway down the straight but Viennese Star began to rally and she was a worthy winner.

The All Too Hard filly All Too Handy was one and a quarter length back in third.

It was a great win – to be honest, I didn't think she had that sought of strength," Zahra said.

"Her jump-outs have been straight to the front and kicking. She was slowly away so I let her find her feet and hopefully run on.

"She showed good fight it was a terrific win.

Bred and part-owned by Neil Werrett, Viennese Star (pictured as a yearling ) was purchased by Ciaron Maher Racing for $240,000 out of the Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is the fourth winner from as many foals out of the unraced Redoute's Choice mare Viennese Lass who is a three-quarter-sister to the champion Snitzel.

Kitchwin Hills will consign a full-brother to Viennese Star at the Inglis Australian Thoroughbred Yearling Sale in April.

Viennese Lass has a colt foal by All Too Hard and was covered by Astern last spring.
