Deep Field Leads Karaka First Season Sires by Average

Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 1
A buoyant market at the NZB National Yearling Sale Book One produced great results for many first season sires with Newgate Farm's Deep Field the leading sire by average for horses with three or more sold and Coolmore's Rubick also making a big impression with his two yearlings.

Deep Field was the leading first season sire by average at Magic Millions and repeated the performance at Karaka with eight yearlings averaging $141,875, a terrific return off his $22,000 service fee.

Top seller for Deep Field was Haunui Farm's colt from Markisa that made $300,000 when secured by Tartan Meadow Bloodstock / Mr Peter KS So.

A half-brother to stakes-winner Ocean Jewel, he traces in tail female line to illustrious producer Eight Carat (GB) as does his sire Deep Field.

Rubick had just two yearlings offered and both sold well with a filly from Galilean Moon fetching $100,000 for Windsor Park when snapped up by Go Bloodstock and a colt from Niki Piki Milo giving Henley Park a major result when he sold for $320,000 to Hong Kong based Magus Equine.

The first foal of his stakes-winning dam, the colt from Niki Piki Milo was a hugely successful pinhook having been bought initially at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale from the Newhaven Park draft for $80,000.

Waikato Stud's Sacred Falls did best of the Kiwi based freshman sires with 41 yearlings averaging $123,659, his best result a colt from Sheezababe that made $300,000 for Waikato Stud when bought by Miss Deborah Ho.

Windsor Park's Charm Spirit had the single highest price of any first season sire with his Windsor Park consigned filly from Lady Kipling making $400,000 to the bid of Ciaron Maher / Waterford Bloodstock.
