$700,000 for G1 Winner Tavago 3/4 Brother

Media Release - Wednesday January 31
Dean Hawthorne secured his prized lot toward the end of the Book 1 Sale at Karaka on Wednesday.

Tavistock colt from Tricia 'O - Darryl ShererThe Cambridge agent had his heart set on a colt out of Cambridge Stud's draft and he went to $700,000 to secure him.

"We thought he was the best Tavistock in the sale," Hawthorne said. "I bought him for a syndicate in Melbourne and he could be a stallion prospect.

"There's no trainer for him confirmed yet. We'll put it out there and see what happens."

The colt is the first foal of the O'Reilly mare Tricia'o, who won two races and is a half-sister to the Gr.2 Winter Stakes (1400m) winner and Gr.1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) placegetter La Sizeranne.

Another son of Tavistock in the Gr.1 Australian Derby (2400m) winner Tavago also features on the pedigree page, as do the Group One performers Imperial Lass and Weregoingtogetcha.

"He's a lovely horse from the first crop of serious mares Tavistock served," Hawthorne said.

"All Tavistocks take time, but he may be able to do something as an autumn two-year-old, he's strong enough." – NZ Racing Desk.
