Hellbent Outpointing Vinnie on Strike Rate!

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 19

Yarraman Park are accustomed to seeing their champion sire I Am Invincible at the top of the Australian sire table, but the performance of his top class son Hellbent this season has been a source of pride for the Mitchell family.

I Am Invincible is the leading sire by winners, but Hellbent is more than keeping him honest with 35 on the board from just 103 runners which is the least runners of any of the sires in the Top 10.

His strike rate of 34% winner to runner is the best of the Top 10 sires and his first stakes-winner of the new season may come sooner rather than later with Hell Hath No Fury and Hellavadancer engaged to run in the Group III Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle on Friday.

Both mares contested the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong at the start of the month finishing third and fifth respectively and head to Newcastle in top form for their respective trainers Annabel Neasham/ Rob Archibald and Kris Lees.

The first Hellbent foals bred at his increased fee of $38,500 are arriving this spring and he stands at the same fee again in 2024 following a stellar 2023/2024 season that saw him sire not one, but two Group I winners in Magic Time and Benedetta, who are both set for further success as five year-olds.
