New G3 Winner Churchill

Tara Madgwick - Sunday September 15

Versatile shuttle sire Churchill (IRE) added a new stakes-winner to his tally in Ireland on Saturday where four year-old gelding Trustyourinstinct took out the Group III Kilternan Stakes (1m4f) continuing his successful transition from hurdling.

Trained by Joseph O’Brien for his owner breeder John P McManus, Trustyourinstinct was placed in Group races at his last two starts including a second to this year’s Doncaster St Leger winner Jan Brueghel.

He upped the ante again to cruise clear and win by a length and three-quarters under Dylan Browne McMonagle taking his overall record to five wins and four placings from 11 starts.

“We weren't sure about the mile-and-a-half trip as his best runs had been at ten but Trustyourinstinct really got the trip well. He qualifies for a lot of big pots around the world as we get into the autumn so he could potentially end up in a race internationally,” said Joseph O’Brien.

Trustyourinstinct is the best of two winners from Gussy Goose, a half-sister by Danehill Dancer to stakes-winner Temps au Temps and to the dam of multiple Group winner Armory.

Trustyourinstinct is the 27th stakes-winner for Galileo’s champion son Churchill, who is back at Coolmore Australia this spring at a fee of $19,800.
