Rich Enuff Flyer Rich Minx Trots Up at Doomben

Mark Smith - Wednesday September 11

Matt Hoysted admitted to some extra pressure in training Rich Minx for his wife Caitlin and the in-laws. Still, the daughter of Rich Enuff looks capable of winning a good race on the strength of a dominant performance over 1110m at Doomben on Wednesday.

Sent off an odds-on favourite following a nine-and-a-half length walk in the park at the Gold Coast on August 24, Rich Minx ambled around under a motionless Ryan Maloney to defeat the Zoustar gelding The Astronomer by four lengths with the Hellbent mare Remlaps Angel back in third.

Rich Minx has won three and finished third in her five-start career.

“Hopefully, the wins will keep coming because there will be another mouth to feed shortly,” Hoysted revealed.

“She’s pretty smart, and we have always had a good opinion of her, but it’s taken a bit of time for the penny to drop.

“She was underdone when she first went to the races. She has improved out of sight and was super impressive last start at the Gold Coast.

“She is at her best when she can control the race, and get into a nice smooth rhythm. She has a high cruising speed, slipped them on the turn, and was rated perfectly by Ryan.

“It’s hard to know where the ceiling is with her because she keeps improving. If we can stretch her out to 1200m or 1400m she will go to another level. She has graduated to Saturday grade next, then we will see where we get to.”

Bred by Caitling Hoysted’s Lavin Park Racing & Breeding, Rich Minx is the second and final foal of the Husson mare Capetown Hussey, who won eight and placed in seven of her 33 starts while banking $239,500.

From the family of Fanfreluche, Capetown Hussey died in 2020.
