Eighth Winner for Spirit Of Boom and This Was Spectacular

Mark Smith - Sunday January 28

Spirit Of Boom lost the top spot at the head of the first season sires when Zoustar's Sunlight won the rich Magic Millions 2yo Classic, however, the Eureka Stud stallion continues to extend his lead for individual winners and his latest may be a little bit special.

The Rod Kemp-trained filly Plumaro was heavily backed to make a winning career debut in an 1100 metre maiden at Toowoomba on Sunday but after a moderate start, she saw the rump of all six opponents in the early stages.

Midway through the race she still had only one behind her.

She then began to truck into the race with a minimum of urging by jockey Nicholas Keal.

It was a matter of stand and applaud in the straight as Plumaro put daylight on the chasing pack. Throttled down in the closing stages, the daughter of Spirit Of Boom extended her margin to nine and a quarter lengths over The Last Sequalo with Evie Cat a short-neck back in third.

A $20,000 purchase by part-owner Chris Mahaffey at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, Plumaro (pictured as a yearling ) becomes the eighth winner for her sire.

Bred by Eureka Thoroughbreds, Plumaro is the first foal of Plumage, a 5-time winning daughter of Red Dazzler. The pedigree page is devoid of black-type for four generations.

There are still plenty of opportunities for those wishing to be a part of the Spirit Of Boom express train.

He has seven catalogued for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, eight heading to the Adelaide Magic Millions and a whopping 44 set to dominate proceedings at the Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.
